Saman Nazari was killed during the Kermanshah protests

The Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on Thursday, 8 January 2026, Saman Nazari was killed during popular protests in the Dareh-Darej area of Kermanshah Province, as a result of direct gunfire by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s security forces.

According to information received by Hana, security and military forces violently suppressed protesters using live military weapons.

As a result of this crackdown, in addition to Saman Nazari, at least four other civilians—Mohammadreza Karami (16 years old), Reza Azimzadeh, Mehdi Emami-Pour, and Fares (Mohsen) Aghamohammadi—were also killed.

It should be noted that two of the victims died after being transferred to medical centers due to the severity of their injuries.

The Hana Human Rights Organization strongly condemns the use of military weapons against unarmed civilians and stresses that the direct shooting of protesters constitutes a clear violation of fundamental human rights principles and the international obligations of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In particular, the killing of Mohammadreza Karami, a 16-year-old teenager, represents a clear case of state killing and a grave violation of the rights of children and adolescents.

The Hana Human Rights Organization calls for independent, transparent, and impartial investigations into these incidents, the identification and prosecution of those responsible, and an end to the policy of violent repression of popular protests in Iran.
