Mohammad Jabbari
Prosecutor General of Sanandaj
Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Chemin du Petit-Saconnex 28
1209 Geneve, Switzerland Dear Mr. Jabarri,
As a long-time member of Amnesty International, I am writing to you regarding
Zahra Ivlohammadi, a Kurdish civil society activist and language teacher,
I recently met with members of my community that represent Amnesty
International's Tri-Cities Chapter 176. They brought to my attention that Ms.
Mohammadi's appeal was denied. Last year, the Sanandaj Appeals Court
wrongfully convicted her of offences against national security and sentenced her to five years in prison. I understand that ❑ few months ago, she was informed that she was required to turn herself into authorities to serve her sentence.
Ms. Moharnmadi is the co-founder of the Nojin Cultural Association — an
organization whose work includes teaching Kurdish language and literature to hundreds of children in and around Sanandaj. According to reports by the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, minority groups in the Islamic
Republic of Iran, including Kurds and Azeris, are disproportionately detained and more harshly sentenced for acts of political dissent. As a supporter of human
rights, I'd appreciate your consideration in granting her another appeal,
Yours sincerely,
Ron McKinnon, MP
