The Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that Yasin Seyfpanahi, a 21-year-old resident of Dehgolan, died under suspicious circumstances on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
According to obtained information, Yasin Seyfpanahi was arrested on October 19, 2022, by security forces for participating in the memorial ceremony of Reza Lotfi, one of the victims of the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising. He was released on bail after three months of detention in security custody.
Sources familiar with the case stated that Seyfpanahi “was an athletic and highly social person, but following his arrest and the psychological pressure he endured, his behavior and spirit completely changed. His family felt he was withholding certain information.” It has also been reported that in recent days, he received several suspicious phone calls from unknown numbers and had expressed to his friends his desire to leave the country.
Yasin Seyfpanahi’s lifeless body was found at his home, and the forensic authority’s initial statement attributed his death to suicide. However, his family has firmly rejected this claim, asserting that given his history of arrest and security pressure, his death should be considered suspicious.
Taking into account the lack of independence of the official forensic system, the Hana Human Rights Organization, in line with its professional responsibilities, calls for a thorough investigation into the cause of death by a committee composed of Doctors Without Borders (MSF), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and independent forensic experts.
