Pakhshan Azizi, a Kurdish political prisoner, was sentenced to death

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization: Pakhshan Azizi, a Kurdish political prisoner, was sentenced to death by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge “Iman Afshari,” on charges of “rebellion through membership in one of the Kurdish opposition parties”.

Pakhshan Azizi's trial was held on June 29, 2024, in the aforementioned branch, and the verdict was communicated to her lawyer on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

This sentence was issued while this political prisoner was deprived of all her rights, access to a lawyer, and meeting with her family during her 8 months of detention and interrogation.

Pakhshan Azizi, a 39-year-old journalist and social work graduate, a former political prisoner, and a resident of Mahabad, was arrested by government forces in Tehran on August 4, 2023, and after four months of interrogation, was transferred from Ward 209 of Evin Prison to the women's ward of this prison on December 11, 2023.

Ms. Azizi was previously arrested by government forces on November 16, 2009, during student protests at the University of Tehran against political executions in Kurdistan, and was eventually released on bail.

Recently, this Kurdish political prisoner wrote in a letter from Evin Prison, referring to her torture by security agencies, stating that she had been "hanged" several times by interrogators and deprived of meeting and contacting her family.
