The Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that the sentence of exile imposed on a Kurdish citizen identified as Omar Sharif Haji, a native of Mahabad County, has been enforced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and that he has been forcibly transferred to the city of Gorgan.
According to Hana’s sources, Omar Sharif Haji was arrested by security forces in July 2023 and transferred to Mahabad Prison. After approximately one month, Branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Mahabad sentenced him to one year of discretionary imprisonment and two years of exile.
On November 5, 2023, after serving around four months of his sentence, Omar Sharif Haji was temporarily released from Mahabad Prison on bail of 10 billion rials, pending the completion of judicial proceedings.
It should be noted that the enforcement of the exile sentence against this Kurdish citizen comes amid the ongoing judicial and security pressures against Kurdish citizens and civil activists in Iran.
