NetBlocks reports the continuation of widespread internet outages across Iran

The Hana Human Rights Organization, citing data published by NetBlocks, reports that the widespread internet shutdown in Iran has now exceeded 60 hours, with nationwide connectivity remaining at around 1 percent of normal levels. NetBlocks has warned that this level of restriction and censorship, at the current critical moment, constitutes a direct threat to the safety and well-being of citizens.

According to NetBlocks’ assessments, the continued disruption severely undermines public access to information, emergency communications, and the ability to independently report on developments on the ground, and may lead to serious humanitarian and security consequences. This report is released amid numerous accounts of an intensified security atmosphere, the arrest of protesters, and efforts to prevent the dissemination of news and images of protests inside the country. In light of the Islamic Republic’s record of committing widespread violations during protests in previous years, the Hana Human Rights Organization expresses deep concern over the continuation of the nationwide internet shutdown, which further enables government forces to carry out abuses with impunity.
