According to received reports, the prison sentence of Mojgan Kavousi, a civil activist and political prisoner from Kelardasht, Mazandaran, has been converted to an open prison sentence. As of Saturday, June 15, 2024, she will serve the remainder of her sentence outside of prison.
On Monday, December 18, 2023, Mojgan Kavousi was summoned to the Execution of Criminal Sentences Branch in Kelardasht, arrested, and transferred to Tonekabon Prison in Mazandaran to serve a 39-month prison sentence. Previously, she was sentenced by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Sari on charges of "insulting the leader" to 15 months and one day in prison, "assembly and collusion against national security" to 39 months in prison, and "propaganda activities against the regime" to 8 months in prison. According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the 39-month sentence was the maximum enforceable punishment for this civil activist.
Mojgan Kavousi was arrested at her home in Kelardasht by security forces on September 22, 2022, and subsequently released on heavy bail of 3 billion Tomans from Qaem Shahr Prison on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
It is noteworthy that on December 20, 2023, Kavousi was accused of "corruption on earth" by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Sari, but she was later acquitted of this charge by the same court.
