According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, today, Monday, August 26, 2024, Matin Hassani, one of the individuals who suffered eye injuries during the 2019 protests, turned himself in to Bukan Prison to serve his sentence.
Matin Hassani was previously sentenced to 31 months in prison by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court of Bukan on charges of "inciting or provoking people to war and murder with the intent to disrupt national security and propaganda against the regime."
Mr. Hassani was arrested by security forces on January 23, 2024, and transferred to the Intelligence Office detention center in Bukan for interrogation. He was then temporarily released from Bukan Prison on February 22, 2024, after posting a bail of one billion tomans, pending the completion of legal proceedings.
It is important to note that Matin Hassani, at the age of 19, lost one of his eyes during the nationwide protests in November 2019 in Bukan, due to being shot by government forces.
