According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Monday, October 28, 2025, Mamostā Mohammad Khezrnejad, a Kurdish Sunni cleric and one of the detainees of the “Women, Life, Freedom” movement in Bukan, was returned to Sanandaj Central Prison after completing his 10-day furlough.
According to the report, this was the first time in three years that he had been granted a furlough. The leave began on Saturday, October 18, 2025, and was granted upon posting a heavy bail and receiving approval from the Sanandaj Prosecutor’s Office.
Sources indicate that the extension of this furlough was contingent upon compliance with restrictions and conditions set by security and judicial authorities, including refraining from meeting with other clerics and Sunni activists.
Mamostā Khezrnejad was arrested in October 2022 after delivering a speech at the funeral of a victim of the nationwide protests in Bukan. Following interrogation at the IRGC Intelligence detention center and Bukan Prison, he was transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison.
The Revolutionary Court initially sentenced him to death and 16 years in prison on charges of “corruption on Earth,” but following widespread public protests and pressure from public opinion, the death sentence was overturned and his punishment reduced to 25 years of Ta’zir imprisonment.
It is worth noting that over the past three years, this Sunni cleric has been held under harsh conditions in Sanandaj Prison and is among those prisoners subjected to additional pressure due to his critical views and religious and social activities.
