Mamosta Ayat Gholami has been sentenced to five years of suspended imprison and six months of Ta’zir(discretionary) imprisonment time

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, in recent days, Mamosta Ayat Gholami, a Sunni cleric, former imam of Mohammad al-Mustafa Mosque in Kermanshah, and teacher at a religious school, has been sentenced by the Special Clerical Court of Appeals in Hamedan to five years of suspended imprison and six months of Ta’zir(discretionary) imprisonment time.

This ruling comes after the lower court had initially sentenced him to two years in prison.

According to his case file, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, the Special Clerical Court in Hamedan had convicted him on charges of “propaganda against the state, spreading false information, and disturbing public opinion,” sentencing him to two years in prison, of which one year was enforceable under the law.

Reports further indicate that Mamosta Ayat Gholami was first detained on April 23, 2025, after being summoned to the Special Clerical Court in Kermanshah. He was released temporarily on April 26, 2025, after posting a bail of 700 million tomans. He was summoned once again on May 21, 2025.

It should also be noted that on July 9, 2024, Gholami was banned from leading prayers and engaging in mosque activities by order of the Kermanshah Clerical Office. Over the years, he has repeatedly faced pressure and summonses from security agencies due to his critical positions — including refusing to endorse government-run elections, signing a statement condemning the execution of Mamosta Mohammad Khezrnejad, protesting the arrests of other clerics, criticizing government officials, and holding Sunni religious ceremonies.
