Legal uncertainty and the continued detention of Behzad Rasouli a political prisoner in Saqqez

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, approximately four months after the arrest of Behzad Rasouli, a political prisoner from Saqqez, he continues to be held in Saqqez Prison without clarity regarding his legal status.
Mr. Rasouli had gone on a hunger strike in protest against his continued illegal detention and the uncertainty surrounding his legal situation. During his hunger strike, prison authorities reportedly remained indifferent to his condition and stated that they would not take responsibility for the consequences of his protest.

Behzad Rasouli, a 42-year-old citizen from Saqqez, was arrested on Saturday, July 26, 2025, during a trip to Isfahan to visit his child, following his return from Iraq. He was initially transferred to the Intelligence Department’s detention center in Saqqez and, after three months, moved to the local prison without any explanation.

Hana has also learned that security interrogators, without formally informing him, have accused him of multiple vague charges, including membership in an “opposition party to the Iranian government,” “rebellion,” “illegal entry,” “propaganda against the regime,” and “disturbing public opinion.”
