On Saturday, August 16, 2025, Kurdish citizen Naser Ahmadzadeh, from Mahabad, was transferred to the city’s prison to serve his sentence. Ahmadzadeh, 33, is married and the father of one child.
According to reports, he had previously been sentenced by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court to 39 months in prison on charges of “acting against national security through cooperation with a Kurdish opposition party.” Following his submission of a “request for compliance with the verdict,” his sentence was reduced to 15 months in prison.
Ahmadzadeh was arrested on January 26, 2025, after security forces raided his home in the Kani Sufi Rashid neighborhood of Mahabad without presenting a judicial warrant. He was initially taken to a security detention center for interrogation, then transferred to Mahabad Prison, and later released on March 3, 2025, on temporary bail of 1 billion tomans pending trial.
This was not his first arrest. On August 14, 2022, Ahmadzadeh was detained by security forces and held for three weeks before being released on September 4, 2022, on bail of 500 million tomans.
