Hana: On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Kianoush Cheraghi, 45, a resident of Dehloran in Ilam province, was released from Dareh Shahr Prison after serving 14 months of imprisonment, with the remainder of his sentence suspended.
Kianoush Cheraghi was arrested on Sunday, March 24, 2024, after being summoned to the Sentence Enforcement Office in Dehloran and was transferred to Ilam Prison to begin serving his sentence. After some time, he was temporarily released under electronic monitoring (ankle bracelet).
On January 25, 2025, Branch 6 of the Ilam Court of Appeals issued a ruling to revoke his electronic monitoring order.
Mr. Cheraghi had previously been sentenced in October 2023 by Branch 2 of the Ilam Revolutionary Court, based in Dehloran and presided over by Judge Seyed Reza Salahoddini, to one year of discretionary imprisonment on the charge of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” including time already served in pretrial detention.
In a separate part of the case, on November 6, 2023, he was sentenced by Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court of Dehloran, presided over by Judge Hossein Panahi, to two years of discretionary imprisonment and an additional punishment: writing 200 pages of the will and biography of ten individuals killed in the Iran-Iraq War, handwritten and verified by the Ilam Foundation for the Preservation and Publication of Sacred Defense Values. This was for the charge of “spreading false information with the intent to disturb public opinion through electronic means.”
Kianoush Cheraghi, a former employee of the Social Security Office, was originally arrested on October 3, 2023 by security forces in Dehloran and was later released on bail pending trial after completing his interrogation.
