Hunger Strike of Kurdish Political Prisoner in Evin Prison in Protest Against Denial of Medical Treatment

On Monday, May 5, 2025, Motaleb Ahmadian, a political prisoner from Baneh, began a hunger strike in Tehran’s Evin Prison in protest against the prosecutor’s refusal to suspend his sentence and the ongoing denial of medical treatment.

Mr. Ahmadian, currently in the 15th year of his 30-year sentence, suffers from serious health conditions including a tumor in the duodenum and fractured spinal vertebrae, requiring urgent surgery.

He was arrested in 2010 and sentenced to 30 years in exile imprisonment by the Islamic Republic judiciary on charges of “enmity against God (moharebeh)” due to alleged membership in a Kurdish opposition party. He has also been convicted in separate cases on charges such as “illegal border crossing,” “complicity in murder,” and “intentional infliction of bodily harm.”

Motaleb Ahmadian is currently held in Ward 4 of Evin Prison.
