On the morning of Monday, September 2, 2025 (11 Shahrivar 1404), in the Baharestan neighborhood of Saqqez, a man set his wife, Soraya Alimohammadi, on fire, resulting in her tragic death.
According to investigations by the Hana Human Rights Organization, the incident occurred following a verbal altercation between the couple. In the course of the dispute, the man poured gasoline at the entrance of their home and set his wife ablaze.
Soraya Alimohammadi was 35 years old and the mother of a young son. Her husband, identified as Afshin, 40 years old, had a history of repeated domestic conflicts and was addicted to synthetic drugs. He was immediately arrested by the police.
The Hana Human Rights Organization strongly condemns this heinous crime and stresses that the lack of adequate legal protections for women within the legal system of the Islamic Republic of Iran is a key factor contributing to femicide and domestic violence.
