Hana’s Report on the Suspicious Death of a Kurdish Prisoner in Ghezel Hesar Prison

According to reports received by Hana, on Thursday, August 28, 2025 (Shahrivar 6, 1404), a prisoner identified as Amir Amiri, a resident of Kandoleh village in Sahneh County, Kermanshah Province, died under unknown circumstances in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

Mr. Amiri, 42 years old, was the son of Reza and father of one daughter.

Informed sources told Hana that the prisoner had previously informed his family in a phone call that he had requested medical attention. However, two days later, prison authorities contacted his family only to inform them of his death without providing any explanation.

It should be noted that Amir Amiri had been arrested two and a half years ago on charges related to drug offenses and was sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Hana Human Rights Organization calls on the Prisons Organization to be held accountable regarding the suspicious death of this prisoner in Ghezel Hesar. It is worth mentioning that in recent years, suspicious deaths of prisoners in prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran have become an unusual but recurring practice, while judicial authorities have consistently failed to provide accountability regarding these cases.
