Hana’s Report on the Interrogation Session of Seven Civil Activists Opposing the Death Penalty at the Sanandaj Prosecutor’s Office

According to Hana, on Sunday, February 23, 2025, an interrogation session was held at the Sanandaj Prosecutor’s Office for seven civil activists: Zahra Mohammadi, Fatemeh Zandkarimi, Sohrab Jalali, Mokhtar Asadi, Kamal Fakourian, Jamil Amini, and Jamal Asadi. They were charged with “disrupting public order and peace.”

During the session, the activists, accompanied by their lawyers, denied all charges and emphasized their legitimate right to freedom of expression through peaceful assembly.

It is noteworthy that this case is related to a protest held on January 15, 2025, in support of Pakhshan Azizi and Vrisheh Moradi and was initiated based on a complaint filed by the Kurdistan Intelligence Department.

The defendants rejected the charge of “disrupting public order and peace,” asserting that participation in civil protests is their natural and legitimate right and that they had not engaged in any criminal activity. Their defense lawyers, citing international laws and human rights principles, argued that their clients’ actions were entirely lawful and within the framework of fundamental citizen rights.

At the end of the interrogation session, the civil activists were released on bail pending the completion of legal proceedings.

Hana Human Rights Organization emphasizes that the civil protest of these individuals against the death penalty, even under the domestic laws of the Islamic Republic, is among the minimum rights outlined in Chapter Three of the Constitution, known as the “Rights of the Nation,” and lacks any criminal attributes.
