Hana Human Rights Organization – Statement on International Human Rights Day.

Human rights are inherent and inalienable entitlements enjoyed by all human beings, regardless of race, nationality, language, gender or religion. Every individual possesses these rights by virtue of the inherent dignity of the human person. In this regard, the principal international legal instruments, most notably the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, were adopted in the period following the establishment of the United Nations as a collective affirmation of respect for that inherent dignity.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted on 10 December 1948, established universal standards binding upon states as primary duty bearers under international law with respect to the protection of human dignity and fundamental freedoms.

Despite these international obligations, systematic violations of human rights by state authorities continue across the world. Since its establishment, the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently been among the most serious and persistent violators of human rights within the international community.

Regrettably, more than seventy seven years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration by the United Nations General Assembly, widespread violations of women’s rights, children’s rights, workers’ and trade union rights, arbitrary executions, restrictions on freedom of belief and expression of religious communities, and the denial of the right to self-determination and political participation of national and ethnic communities continue on a chronic and systematic basis in Iran.

Hana Human Rights Organization reaffirms its commitment to the universal values of human rights, condemns the continuing pattern of gross violations perpetrated by the Islamic Republic of Iran, and urges international human rights mechanisms and relevant UN bodies to strengthen their scrutiny of the serious human rights situation in Iran, particularly the sustained violations against women, children, and national, linguistic and religious communities, especially in the aftermath of the recent twelve day Iran and Israel war.
