Gzing Qazi a Kurdish writer and civil rights activist was arrested in Tehran

According to information received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Gzing Qazi, a Kurdish writer and civil rights activist, was arrested by security forces at her home in Tehran and taken to an undisclosed location.

According to the report, the security agents entered her residence without presenting any judicial warrant, searched the house, and then arrested her. Her mobile phone was also confiscated during the arrest.

On Friday, October 10, 2025, Saad Qazi, Gzing’s brother, confirmed her arrest in a post on his personal Instagram page.

Reports indicate that in recent days, Ms. Qazi had published critical posts about the current situation in Iran, particularly concerning women’s rights, family issues, and mental health, on social media.

According to informed sources, she has been diagnosed with cancer and requires special medication — a matter that has deepened her family’s concern about her physical condition in detention.

Gzing Qazi had previously come under pressure from security agencies in 2018 due to her social and civil activities.

Born in Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, she holds a bachelor’s degree in Persian literature and is a writer, poet, and women’s rights advocate.

As of the time this report was published, none of the security or judicial institutions in Iran have taken responsibility for her arrest. Her family has only managed to confirm her relative well-being during a brief phone call.

The Hana Human Rights Organization condemns this unlawful arrest, expresses deep concern over Gzing Qazi’s legal and physical situation, and holds the Tehran provincial prosecutor and the Director-General of Intelligence directly responsible for her safety and well-being.
