Gilan-e Gharb: Amputation and Injury of a Couple Following a Landmine Explosion

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, a middle-aged nomadic couple, “Kamal Ehsanbakhsh,” 65, and “Najimeh Jafari,” 55, sustained severe injuries and amputation due to the explosion of landmines left from the Iran-Iraq war.

According to a reliable source, the couple encountered the incident while herding their livestock in the border region of “Meymak” in Eilam Province.

The source further stated that Kamal Ehsanbakhsh lost his left leg due to the explosion, while his wife, Najimeh Jafari, sustained injuries to her abdomen and eye.

The Hana Human Rights Organization has expressed deep concern about this incident and once again emphasizes the urgent need for the clearance of mine-contaminated areas and preventive measures to protect the lives of citizens in these regions. Landmines remaining from the war continue to pose a serious threat to human lives in these areas, constituting a significant human rights challenge.
