Four Sisters Commit Suicide Over Two Days in Tehran

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, today, Sunday, July 21, 2024, two sisters aged 13 and 14, named Alena and Elisa, simultaneously jumped from the 19th floor of the Ofogh Hakimiyeh Tower in Tehran, ending their lives.

Additionally, on Saturday, July 20, 2024, two other sisters, Targol and Elnaz Shiralian, both translators and writers, also ended their lives by committing suicide.

A source reported that Targol and Elnaz committed suicide ten days after their father's death.

The main causes of suicide in Iran and Kurdistan include poverty, unemployment, patriarchal traditions and the legal support for them, low income, lack of economic and livelihood infrastructure, hopelessness about the future, the promotion of violence, and the absence of proper education.
