According to reports by the Hana Human Rights Organization:
On the morning of Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the death sentences of three Kurdish prisoners—Edris Ali, Azad Shojaei, both from the village of Dowleh-Garm in Sardasht, and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul, a resident of Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq—were carried out at Orumiyeh Central Prison.
These three individuals had previously been sentenced to death by Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh on charges of “enmity against God (moharebeh) and corruption on earth (efsad fel-arz) through collaboration with the hostile state of Israel.”
Edris Ali, Azad Shojaei, and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul were arrested in July 2023 by security forces in Sardasht and transferred to the detention center of the Ministry of Intelligence in Orumiyeh. They were held there incommunicado for over three months, during which they were subjected to severe physical and psychological torture, before being transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison.
On September 23, 2023, the three men were tried by Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh, presided over by Judge Ghorban Shahini, and charged with espionage for Israel. In Late October 2023, the court officially notified them of their death sentences.
Despite the accusations, all three detainees had denied the charges during interrogation, stating that they were merely kolbars (border porters) and cross-border traders.
In November 2024, judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir had referred—without naming them directly—to the issuance of death sentences against three individuals in connection with the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, stating that the case was under appeal at that time.
All three prisoners—Idris Ali, Azad Shojaei, and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul—were married and fathers.
It is noteworthy that the families of these Kurdish prisoners were not informed in advance of their transfer to solitary confinement for imminent execution. They only learned about the executions after the sentences were carried out, through official channels.
