Execution of the sentence to amputate four fingers of the right hand of three prisoners at Orumiyeh Central Prison

Hana: On the evening of Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the sentence to amputate four fingers of the right hand of three prisoners—identified as Hadi Rostami (son of Naser, from Mehran in Ilam province), Mehdi Shahivand (son of Ali, from Lorestan), and Mehdi Sharafian (son of Mahboob-Ali, from Khorramabad)—was carried out at Orumiyeh Central Prison.

According to received reports, the three prisoners were summoned to the prison guard’s office, where their hands and feet were shackled, and they were blindfolded before being transferred to the execution room. There, after being administered local anesthesia, the sentence of amputating four fingers of their right hand was carried out using a guillotine device.

The implementation of the sentence reportedly took place in the presence of Peyman Khanzadeh, the warden of Orumiyeh Prison, and Saeed Nouri, the deputy prosecutor.

These three individuals were tried in a joint case on October 24, 2019, at Branch 1 of the Juvenile Criminal Court in Orumiyeh, where they were convicted on four counts of theft and sentenced to the amputation of four fingers of their right hand from the end, in a manner that the thumb and the palm would remain intact. They were also ordered to return the stolen items.

The verdict was officially communicated to them on November 19, 2019, and subsequently upheld on May 10, 2020, by Branch 13 of the Supreme Court of Iran.

The Supreme Court ruling stated that the issued verdict was reasoned and substantiated, and the defendants’ appeal did not align with any of the grounds outlined in Article 464 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Based on this, the sentence was declared final and binding and was forwarded to the Enforcement Office of the Judiciary in Orumiyeh for execution.

Previously, on the morning of Tuesday, October 29, 2024, a similar sentence was carried out against two imprisoned brothers, Mehrdad Teimouri and Shahab Teimouri (sons of Hossein and residents of Sarpol-e Zahab), at the same prison.

Hana Human Rights Organization strongly condemns the implementation of corporal punishments, especially amputation, considering such acts a clear example of torture and inhuman, degrading, and cruel treatment that violates human dignity.
