During the January protests, at least 39 Kurdish civilians were arrested by security forces in Ilam

Following the continued security crackdown on the January protests, at least 39 Kurdish civilians have been arrested by security forces in the cities of Dareh Shahr, Dehloran, Badreh, Chradoul, Sarableh, and Abdanan in Ilam province.

HANA Human Rights Organization has learned that between January 1 and January 4, 2026, at least 39 Kurdish civilians were arrested in connection with the recent protests and transferred to unknown locations.

Among those detained are several children and teenagers under the age of 18, which has raised serious concerns about violations of children’s rights.

The identities of the detainees confirmed by HANA Human Rights Organization are as follows:

  7. Mehdi Faghihi, 19, from Ilam
  8. Armin Karimi, 21, from Ilam
  9. Ali Sajadian, 19, from Ilam
  10. Mehdi Kohani, from Ilam
  11. Amir Mohammad Sohrabian, from Ilam
  12. Hassan Nourdinvand, 29, from Dareh Shahr
  13. Milad Karami, 23, from Ilam
  14. Alireza Naghi Zadeh, 27, from Sarableh

HANA Human Rights Organization has expressed deep concern over the ongoing mass arrests and the lack of information about the fate of detainees, and is calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all those arrested, as well as for security and judicial authorities to adhere to human rights standards and basic civil rights.
