Denial of medical treatment for Reza Ramazanzadeh, a Kurdish political prisoner in Tehran prison

Hana: On Saturday, May 3, 2025, Reza Ramazanzadeh, a Kurdish political prisoner from Khorasan who is serving a 2-year and 6-month sentence in Tehran prison, was reported to be in critical physical condition due to severe gastrointestinal issues after being held for four months in a ward designated for violent offenders. He has been denied access to medical care.

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Mr. Ramazanzadeh—who has a history of multiple arrests and hunger strikes—has developed serious digestive problems. Nevertheless, prison authorities have not only refused to transfer him to medical facilities, but have also deprived him of visitation rights, phone access, and other basic prisoner rights.

Reza Ramazanzadeh is among those arrested during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising and had previously been detained in the years 2013, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

Hana Human Rights Organization expresses deep concern over the deteriorating health condition of this political prisoner and calls for his immediate access to medical treatment and the protection of his human rights in accordance with domestic law and international human rights standards.
