According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization:
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, a prisoner identified as Reza Maleki, a 37-year-old Kurdish man from Harsin County, died in Qezel Hesar Prison due to the worsening of his liver condition and the lack of adequate medical care.
Reza Maleki was being held in Ward 15, Unit 2 of Qezel Hesar Prison. According to Hana’s sources, in the final weeks of his life, he was in critical physical condition. Despite doctors’ diagnosis that his condition was terminal, judicial and prison authorities denied him medical furlough or conditional release to spend his final days with his family.
Medical staff reportedly warned multiple times that continued imprisonment could cost him his life. However, prison officials remained indifferent and failed to take any effective steps to transfer him to an external medical facility.
Reza Maleki had previously been arrested on charges related to drug offenses.
