Death of environmental activist Hamid Moradi due to severe burn injuries

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, in the early hours of Friday, July 25, 2025, Hamid Moradi—a 36-year-old environmental activist, attorney, and director of the “Sheney Nozhin Kurdistan” Environmental Association, originally from Divandareh and a resident of Sanandaj—passed away at Kowsar Hospital in Sanandaj due to the severity of burn injuries.

Mr. Moradi, who was married, had been voluntarily engaged for years in protecting the environment, forests, and natural resources of Kurdistan Province.

According to the report, he was injured while trying to contain a series of deliberate and widespread wildfires that have recently intensified in the forests and pastures of the region, causing extensive damage to local ecosystems.

It is worth noting that one day prior to his death, five other environmental activists from Sanandaj were also injured during the firefighting efforts and were transferred to Kosar Hospital. As of now, no detailed information is available regarding their health conditions.
