According to reports received by Hana Human Rights Organization, Pezhman Soltani, a Kurdish political prisoner and a detainee of the Woman, Life, Frredom movement, has been sentenced to death by Branch One of the Special Juvenile Criminal Court in Orumiyeh.
Meanwhile, two other defendants in the case, Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri and Soran Qasemi, have been sentenced to 15 years and 10 years and one day in prison, respectively. Kaveh Salehi, another defendant, has been acquitted of all charges.
Case Details
According to received information:
• The four detainees were tried on December 29, 2024, and the verdicts were delivered to them on January 15, 2025, in Orumiyeh Central Prison.
• Pezhman Soltani, 32, was sentenced to death on charges of “premeditated murder.”
• Rezgâr Beigzadeh Babamiri and Soran Qasemi were convicted of “complicity in murder” and received long-term prison sentences.
Hana sources report that following their arrest, these four detainees were held in solitary confinement at the Orumiyeh Intelligence Detention Center for four months, where they were subjected to severe torture and forced to make confessions under duress.
Additional Charges in the Revolutionary Court
Beyond these sentences, Pezhman Soltani, Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, Soran Qasemi, and Kaveh Salehi—along with Javanmard Mamkhosravi, another detainee of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement—are facing a separate case in the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court. They have been charged with “enmity against God (moharebeh), rebellion (baghi), drug trafficking, and smuggling Starlink devices”—charges that could result in severe penalties.
Arrests
• Pezhman Soltani was arrested at his workplace on April 14, 2024.
• Soran Qasemi was detained in front of his home on the same day.
• Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri was arrested on April 16, 2024, by intelligence forces.
Hana’s Statement and International Appeal
Hana Human Rights Organization expresses grave concern over the situation of these prisoners and calls for:
• The immediate halt of Pezhman Soltani’s execution.
• A fair and transparent review of the cases.
• An end to torture and forced confessions in Iran’s security detention centers.
Hana also urges the international community, human rights organizations, and the United Nations to take urgent action to prevent executions and further human rights violations against these detainees.
