Confirmation of the Death Sentences of Two Political Prisoners by the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic of Iran

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, the death sentences of two political prisoners, Behrouz Ehsani Eslamloo, 70 years old, married with two children, originally from Orumiyeh and residing in Tehran, and Mehdi Hasani, 48 years old, married with three children, from Zanjan, were confirmed by the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic of Iran and communicated to their lawyers.

According to the received reports, these two political prisoners were sentenced to death in late September 2024 by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari. They were charged with rebellion (Baghi), enmity against God (Moharebeh), Spreading Corruption on Earth (Efsad-e-Fil-Arz), membership in the Mojahedin Organization, collecting classified information, and collusion against national security.

Mehdi Hasani was arrested on September 11, 2022, in Zanjan, transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison, and subjected to prolonged physical and psychological torture before being moved to Ward 8 of Evin Prison.

Similarly, Behrouz Ehsani Eslamloo was arrested in November 2022 during the Woman, Life, Freedom revolutionary movement at his home and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison, affiliated with the Ministry of Intelligence. After three and a half months of torture and interrogation, he was moved to Ward 4 of Evin Prison.
