Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that Yaghoub Karimpour, a married citizen and follower of the Yari faith (Yarsan) from Miandoab, who was arrested by security forces during the 12-day war between Iran and Israel, has been sentenced to death by Branch One of the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Sajad Dousti, on the charge of “corruption on earth” through “espionage in favor of Israel.”
Yaghoub Karimpour, born in 1984, is a person with a disability, is under the coverage of the State Welfare Organization, and holds a bachelor’s degree in law from Maragheh University.
Mr. Karimpour was arrested on 16 June 2025 in Miandoab and transferred to the Orumiyeh Intelligence Department detention center for interrogation.
According to Hana’s sources, he was subjected to severe physical and psychological pressure for approximately two months, aimed at extracting forced confessions regarding “cooperation with Israel and the transfer of information.”
Throughout his detention and until his case was referred to Branch One of the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court, this Yarsani citizen was denied access to a lawyer and was also prevented from having visits with his family.
The court hearing in Yaghoub Karimpour’s case was held via videoconference, and in a brief trial lasting approximately 15 minutes, he was sentenced to death on the charge of “corruption on earth” through “espionage in favor of Israel.” The verdict was formally communicated to him on 8 December 2025 at Orumiyeh Central Prison.
It should be noted that Mr. Karimpour has denied all charges against him at every stage of the judicial process. Following the objection filed by his lawyer against the initial verdict, the case has been referred to Branch 9 of the Supreme Court of Iran for further review.
