Chiako Rezaei was released after 110 days of detention in poor physical condition

Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on Thursday, 25 December 2025, Chiako Rezaei, a Kurdish athlete from Sanandaj, was released from the Sanandaj Intelligence Department detention center after 110 days of detention, upon posting bail set at one billion tomans.

According to an informed source, during his detention and prolonged confinement in solitary cells, Chiako Rezaei lost approximately 25 kilograms, raising serious concerns about his physical and psychological health.

His release came after his detention order had been extended for a fourth time, with these extensions carried out without clear legal justification, fueling widespread concerns regarding the judicial process and the handling of his case.

Hana Human Rights Organization had previously learned that Rezaei’s initial detention order, which was valid until 1 December 2025, not only failed to result in his release upon expiration, but was extended again without clear and documented legal reasoning until 10 January 2026. These repeated and non-transparent extensions significantly increased doubts about the legal grounds for his continued detention.

According to earlier reports published by Hana, at one point a bail order of one billion tomans had been issued for his release; however, despite this judicial decision, the bail was not implemented and he remained in detention.

It should be noted that Chiako Rezaei was arrested on 5 September 2025 by security forces without the presentation of a judicial warrant and, following his arrest, was transferred to solitary confinement in the Sanandaj Intelligence Department detention center. During this period, he was denied access to a lawyer, regular phone contact, and visits with his family.
