Hana: At around 3 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, special guard forces and the prison protection unit violently raided the political ward (Unit 2) of Greater Tehran Prison, forcibly transferring about 500 political prisoners to Evin Prison.
According to received reports, prisoners—while handcuffed and shackled together—were subjected to insults, severe beatings, and humiliation. During the operation, security forces prevented the prisoners from contacting their families, and a number of political inmates were taken to unknown locations.
Narges Mohammadi, human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, described this action in an audio message from inside prison as a “violent and inhumane relocation” and warned about the health and safety of the prisoners.
According to the report, the transfer took place without prior notice, and the conduct of the officers included beatings with batons, prolonged use of handcuffs and shackles, and verbal abuse.
It should be noted that families of some of the transferred prisoners remain unaware of their whereabouts.
