According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on the evening of 8 January 2026, a 16-year-old girl named Asra Tavousi-Nia, from the village of Dasht Bolagh in Sonqor & Kolyai County, was severely wounded by direct gunfire from the forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran during popular protests in Tehran. After enduring serious injuries and limited medical care for two weeks, she lost her life on 24 January 2026.
Asra Tavousi-Nia was shot with a pellet gun targeting her abdomen and genital area. Due to severe bleeding, she was treated in secret for more than two weeks by volunteer doctors.
Hana, citing a source close to her family, reported that because of the intense security environment and the arrest and deaths of protesters in medical facilities, her family was unable to transfer her to a hospital or access formal medical care.
In recent weeks, alongside reports of the shocking number of deaths during the nationwide protests, the Hana Human Rights Organization has made every effort to identify and expose the identities of those killed and arrested in this movement. Hana’s legal team has been in continuous contact with international human rights bodies to report this widespread crime by the Islamic Republic against Iranian citizens.
