According to reports received by Hana Human Rights Organization, Ashkan Fahim, a political prisoner held in Mahabad Prison, has been denied access to proper medical treatment despite suffering from heart conditions, severe vision impairment, and chronic headaches.
Sources confirm that his physical condition is seriously concerning. Prison authorities have refused to transfer him to specialized medical centers or grant him temporary medical leave.
A prison infirmary doctor, after examining him, confirmed his visual impairment and emphasized the need for evaluation by a specialist ophthalmologist. However, not only has his transfer to an outside facility been denied, even a request for short-term leave to visit an eye clinic has been rejected.
Furthermore, the prison infirmary reportedly lacks even basic medical equipment, and in emergency cases, referrals to external medical facilities are often blocked by security agencies.
In addition to his critical health condition, Ashkan Fahim has submitted multiple requests for conditional release, all of which have been rejected by security agencies without providing legal justification.
Ashkan Fahim was arrested on September 14, 2023, by security forces at his home in Mahabad, located near Hassanzadeh Square. He was transferred to the al-Mahdi IRGC base in Orumiyeh, where he was held and interrogated for 45 days before being moved to Mahabad Prison.
In December 2023, following a brief trial at Branch 1 of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court presided over by Judge Dousti, he was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison and two years of exile in Tafresh County, in Markazi Province.
His continued denial of medical treatment, combined with the poor sanitary conditions in Mahabad Prison and the authorities’ disregard for his health, raise serious concerns over the violation of his basic rights as a political prisoner.
