Arrest of Mamusta Ayat Gholami Following His Summons to the Special Clergy Court in Kermanshah

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization:
On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Mamusta Ayat Gholami, a Sunni cleric and former imam of the “Mohammad al-Mostafa” Mosque in the city of Kermanshah, was arrested after being summoned to the Special Clergy Court and appearing at a hearing.

This Kurdish cleric, who is also a teacher at a religious seminary, had previously been summoned on July 9, 2024, by the security division of the Kermanshah Clergy Center. At the order of this security body, he was banned from leading prayers and carrying out all religious activities at the mosque.

In recent years, Mamusta Ayat Gholami has repeatedly been summoned by security agencies due to his critical positions. These include his refusal to support state-run elections, signing a statement condemning the execution of Mamusta Mohammad Khezrnajad, protesting the arrests and restrictions imposed on clerics, criticizing the killing of kolbars and fuel carriers, and organizing religious ceremonies based on Sunni beliefs.

Hana Human Rights Organization expresses deep concern over the continued suppression of religious and expressive freedoms in Kurdistan and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Mamusta Gholami, as well as an end to the pressure on Sunni religious activists.
