A municipal employee in Kani Dinar set himself on fire following administrative pressure and humiliating treatment

Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on Sunday, 16 November 2025, Fereydoun Rostami, a long-serving employee of the municipality of Kani Dinar town in Marivan County, attempted self-immolation following what has been described as “repeated pressure and humiliating treatment by the municipality’s security officers.”

According to an informed source, Rostami’s colleagues were able to save his life immediately after the incident using a fire extinguisher.

The source further added that in recent months, Rostami had been subjected to pressure and “humiliating behavior” by Shima Mohammadi, a municipal security officer, and the daughter of Karim Mohammadi from the Marivan Intelligence Department.

According to the information received, Rostami had been dismissed from his position about six months earlier due to “pressure and interference” from this officer. After widespread local protests and reactions, he was reinstated, but not in his previous role in the Secretariat; instead, he was assigned as a foreman. The source added that in recent days, Rostami had also been forced to perform menial tasks, including sweeping city streets.

The source noted that Rostami’s previous dismissal had caused severe financial difficulties for his family, and his wife had been forced to undergo an abortion due to the stress resulting from this situation.

It should be noted that, at the time of preparing this report, no precise information is available regarding Fereydoun Rostami’s current physical condition.
