Qezbest Rouzdar, Mother of Kurdish Political Prisoner “Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou,” Calls for Public and International Support Following a Year of Silence About Her Son’s Fate
Qezbest Rouzdar, the mother of Kurdish political prisoner Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou, has released a video statement in which she speaks of a full year without any news about her son’s condition and fate. She called on the people of Iran, the general public, international organizations, and human rights activists and institutions to support her son.
The words of Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou’s mother are as follows:
“I am Qezbest Rouzdar, mother of Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou, from Chaldoran. My son has been detained for two years. He has spent an entire year in detention without any contact. On the day they claim he was involved in a conflict, we were with him and my grandchildren in Turkey. His passport bears an exit stamp, and even the signal from his phone confirms he was outside Iran that day. But still, they arrested him and forced him to confess under torture. He is illiterate and didn’t even know what he was signing.”
It is worth noting that in recent days, the death sentence of Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou was upheld in full by Branch 9 of the Supreme Court of Iran. The verdict was officially communicated to him on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in Orumiyeh Central Prison.
Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou is a 39-year-old political prisoner, married, father of three, and a native of Segrik village in Chaldoran County. He was arrested on April 13, 2023, at the Chaldoran border by border forces and transferred first to the Chaldoran Border Patrol detention center and then to the Orumiyeh Intelligence Detention Center.
He was held for 11 months and 10 days in the Orumiyeh Intelligence Detention Center, where he was subjected to severe psychological and physical torture to extract forced confessions regarding alleged involvement in an armed clash between PKK forces and Iranian border guards.
With limited literacy, Mr. Heydaranlou was coerced under torture into signing pre-written documents prepared by security interrogators.
In late July 2024, Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Orumiyeh, presided over by Judge Najafzadeh, sentenced him to death on the charge of “baghi” (armed rebellion) through alleged membership in the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou is currently held in Ward 2 (Reception) of Orumiyeh Central Prison. Since his arrest, he has had only two phone calls with his family and has been denied access to a lawyer and all other basic human rights.
