According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Sunday, 15 February 2026, a worker named Akam Bijan, from the village of Khatoon Bagh in Mahabad County, lost his life while working at the Barda-mish mine in Mahabad due to the overturning of a loader machine.
Akam Bijan was married and had one child.
It is noteworthy that the continued occurrence of fatal workplace accidents in Iran highlights serious weaknesses in safety standards, insufficient oversight, and structural neglect of workers’ right to life and personal safety, which constitutes a clear violation of their fundamental rights.
