A father murdered his 17-year-old daughter in Piranshahr, allegedly due to a suspected romantic relationship with a boy

According to the Human Rights Organization Hana, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, a 17-year-old girl named “Kani Abdollahzadeh” from the village of “Mashkan” in Piranshahr County was brutally murdered by her father with a knife.

Preliminary information indicates that Kani was fatally stabbed multiple times by her father due to suspicions of her having a romantic relationship with a boy. Despite being transported to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries due to severe blood loss. Kani’s father has been arrested, and her body has been transferred to the forensic medical examiner’s office.

It is noteworthy that the primary factor contributing to the increasing violence against women in Iran is the absence of effective laws to protect women. The Islamic Republic regime has intervened in areas that are fundamentally considered women’s private spheres, such as freedom of dress, depriving women of their basic freedoms. However, in areas where protecting women and children requires state intervention against domestic violence, the regime remains silent and considers it a private family matter. This lack of state intervention through legislative and judicial mechanisms to support women has led to the formation of exclusive rights under titles such as “honor and chastity.” As a result, women are subject to the decisions of their fathers, husbands, or brothers without adequate legal protection. Such absolute authority over the physical and psychological integrity of women, under the guise of the private sphere of the family, can ultimately lead to heinous crimes against women and children.

In this regard, the Hana Legal Office expresses its readiness to provide legal services and counseling to victims of domestic violence.
