A death sentence and a total of 60 years of imprisonment were issued for seven Kurdish citizens by the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Mahabad

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, in recent days, seven Kurdish citizens from Mahabad, Bukan, and Miandoab have been sentenced to death and imprisonment by Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Mahabad, presided over by Judge Ahad Sayami.

Based on the obtained information, Kavis Abdollahzadeh Aghdam, 40 years old and a resident of the village of “Torshkan” in Mahabad County, has been sentenced to death on charges of rebellion (baghi).

Six other citizens — identified as Yousef and Heman Mam Qaderi from Bukan, Salar Bayzidi Azar from the village of Lej in Mahabad County, Mansour Karbalaei from Sarchenar, Miandoab, and Hasan Mamil-Azar and Salar Seyed Rahimi from Gavmish-Goli, Miandoab — have each been sentenced to ten years and one day in prison on charges of “acting against national security” and “membership in one of the Kurdish opposition parties.”

According to a reliable source, the trial was held without observing the principles of a fair trial, and Mr. Abdollahzadeh Aghdam was tried in absentia.

These individuals were arrested between June 25 and June 30, 2022, by security forces without a judicial warrant and were subsequently transferred to the detention center of the Orumiyeh Intelligence Office for interrogation.

Sources close to their families reported that during detention, the defendants were subjected to physical and psychological torture to extract forced confessions and were denied fundamental legal rights, including access to legal counsel and family visits.

It is worth mentioning that all of these citizens were transferred to Bukan Prison after the interrogation phase and were later released temporarily on heavy bail.
