According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on the morning of Thursday, March 27, 2025, a death row prisoner identified as Habib Geravand, a 25-year-old from Kuhdasht, attempted suicide.
Based on Hana’s information, the prisoner took his own life by consuming an excessive amount of methadone syrup and was subsequently transferred to Kowsar Hospital in Karaj.
He had been arrested on charges related to drug offenses and was later sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to documents and eyewitness testimonies from Iranian prisons, despite legal prohibitions, access to narcotic-related drugs and pills remains available in prison facilities. Prison authorities not only fail to prevent the illegal trade of these substances but, in some cases, prison staff themselves are part of the distribution and trafficking network within the prisons.
