A 13-year-old child was killed in a landmine explosion in Dehloran

Based on reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, a 13-year-old child named “Rahim Hamidi” lost his life due to a landmine explosion in the “Cham-Hendi” area of Dehloran County, illam Province.

It is worth noting that the Islamic Republic of Iran has not yet signed or acceded to the Ottawa Convention (the treaty banning the use, stockpiling, production, and transfer of anti-personnel mines). This convention, drafted in 1997 and enforced from 1999, aims to completely eliminate anti-personnel mines worldwide and has been joined by 165 countries. Iran, however, continues to refrain from joining this treaty.

According to reports, Iran has not only refrained from joining the convention but has also planted new landmines in certain border areas, particularly in western provinces such as Kurdistan and Ilam. This situation has resulted in significant human casualties.

It should be noted that both remaining and newly laid mines continue to pose a threat to civilians, making the urgent clearance of these areas essential.
