According to information received by the Hana Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Meysam Jasemian, a 16 or 17 year old adolescent worker from Sarpol-e Zahab, died of electrocution while working at a car wash in the “Meydancheh” neighborhood of that city.
The death of this adolescent in the workplace, beyond raising the issue of safety and technical protection, once again highlights the issue of the employment of individuals under 18 and the responsibility of employers and regulatory institutions to protect them. Working children and adolescents, owing to their age and greater vulnerability, require special protections against hazardous work and unsafe working environments.
This incident also raises the need to examine the safety conditions of the workplace, the cause of the electrocution, and compliance with technical safety requirements. As of the time of this report’s publication, no information has been released regarding the findings of the responsible institutions’ investigation into the precise cause of the incident or the safety conditions of the workplace.
