According to information received by HANA Human Rights Organization, Neda Dadajani and Setayesh (Behnoush) Sarabi, two Kurdish citizens arrested during the January 2026 protests in Qorveh, have been sentenced to a combined six years in prison, four years of internal exile, and 62 lashes.
Under the ruling handed down by the Revolutionary Court, each of the two women was sentenced to three years in ta’zir imprisonment, two years of exile to Nikshahr in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, and 31 lashes, on charges including “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the state.”
Dadajani and Sarabi were arrested by security forces in Qorveh during the January 2026 protests. After being interrogated in security detention facilities in Sanandaj, they were transferred to the women’s ward of the city’s central prison.
Sources close to HANA say both women were denied effective access to independent legal counsel and basic fair trial guarantees throughout their detention and prosecution.
HANA Human Rights Organization regards the imposition of flogging as a violation of the prohibition on torture and cruel, degrading treatment. The exile sentences, meanwhile, tear the two women away from their families and communities, adding a further layer of hardship for them and their loved ones.
HANA is calling for these sentences to be overturned, for the flogging to be halted, and for the case to be reheard in line with fair trial standards.
