Expressing grave concern over the continued detention of Nasrin Sotoudeh, Hana Human Rights Organization declares that the passage of more than two weeks since the arrest of this lawyer and human rights defender, coupled with the failure to disclose her whereabouts and legal status, constitutes a clear violation of fundamental human rights principles and the rule of law.
Her deprivation of effective access to legal counsel, the lack of transparent notification of charges, and the restriction of contact with her family—in accordance with binding international legal standards, including the provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights—amount to arbitrary detention and a blatant violation of fair trial guarantees.
The continuation of this situation entails direct legal responsibility for the relevant authorities.
Hana Human Rights Organization demands the immediate disclosure of Nasrin Sotoudeh’s whereabouts, health condition, and the legal basis for her detention. The organization emphasizes that her full and unhindered access to a lawyer of her choice and communication with her family must be guaranteed immediately. The persistence of this situation will be considered a serious violation of the Iranian government’s international obligations.
