Continued detention and no information regarding the fate of Kiomars Va’ezi a labor activist from Sonqor

Human Rights Organization HANA has been informed that on Monday, January 5, 2026, a Kurdish citizen identified as Kiomars Va’ezi, a teacher and labor activist from Sonqor, Kermanshah Province, was arrested by plainclothes security forces and transferred to an unknown location.

According to an informed source, Mr. Va’ezi was arrested in front of his private residence by plainclothes agents. The source added that this arrest took place after the Sonqor Intelligence Office had summoned and threatened him following the publication of a call for a protest gathering, warning that he would be arrested if he left his home.

Kiomars Va’ezi had previously been dismissed from his job through forced retirement after 27 years of teaching during the 2021–2022 nationwide protests. In the same year, he was sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to six years of imprisonment on charges including “propaganda against the regime” and “inciting and provoking the public.”

It should be noted that more than one month after his arrest, there is still no information regarding his place of detention, legal status, or physical and mental health condition, a situation that has significantly increased concern among his family.
