The Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on Monday, 12 January 2026, Mojtaba Tarshiz, a former player for Nassaji Mazandaran, Tractor Tabriz, Fajr Sepasi Shiraz, and Mes Kerman football teams, along with his wife, lost their lives in Tehran during the recent protests after being shot directly by repressive forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to Hana’s sources, the couple had two daughters.
Expressing deep concern over the continued use of lethal violence against unarmed protesters, the Hana Human Rights Organization considers the killing of Mojtaba Tarshiz and his wife to be yet another example of the grave violation of the right to life and the systematic repression of citizens in Iran. The organization calls for an independent, transparent, and impartial investigation into the circumstances of their deaths and demands accountability for both the perpetrators and those who ordered this crime.
Furthermore, the Hana Human Rights Organization urges the international community, human rights bodies, and United Nations Special Rapporteurs to give urgent and special attention to the situation of protesters, the families of victims, and in particular the children left behind as a result of the recent crackdowns in Iran.
