Hana’s report on the assassination of Mamostā Masoud Nazari a Kurdish religious and political activist in Turkey

The Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on the evening of Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Mamostā Masoud Nazari, a Kurdish religious and political activist from Javanrud, was assassinated in front of his residence in Istanbul, Turkey, after being targeted by unidentified armed assailants. He died at the scene as a result of direct gunfire.

According to sources close to his family, the attack took place right at the entrance of his home, and the assailants immediately fled the scene.

It is noteworthy that around ten years ago, Mamostā Masoud Nazari fled Iran due to his religious, political, and critical activities against the Islamic Republic and had since been living in Turkey in forced exile.

Given the Islamic Republic’s history of carrying out political assassinations on Turkish soil, his family and relatives consider agents of the Iranian intelligence services to be the main suspects behind this assassination. According to the family, Mamostā Nazari had previously received multiple threats from the security institutions of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Mamostā Nazari was a well-known figure among Kurdish Sunni religious activists and a vocal critic of the Islamic Republic’s discriminatory policies rooted in political Islam.

The Hana Human Rights Organization condemns this assassination and, considering the history of violent acts by the Islamic Republic against political activists in Turkey, calls on the Turkish police and security authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and clarify the motives behind this politically motivated killing.
