Killing of a Kurdish kolbar by direct fire from military forces at the Marivan border

Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a Kurdish kolbar named Payam Ahmadi—married, a father, and a resident of the village of Barqaro in Sarvabad County—was shot dead by Iranian military forces in the border area of Hanjiran, located in Marivan County.

According to informed sources, Iranian border guards opened fire without prior warning on a group of kolbars. During the shooting, Payam Ahmadi was struck by a bullet and died instantly.

An informed source told Hana that due to the heavy gunfire and the highly militarized atmosphere in the region, it was not possible to retrieve the body by the end of the day. Military forces reportedly prevented other kolbars from transferring his body to Marivan.

The source added that Payam Ahmadi’s body was finally found by local residents in the early hours of Wednesday, July 16, and transported to a hospital in Marivan.

Hana Human Rights Organization expresses deep concern over the ongoing repressive and violent treatment of Kurdish kolbars and calls for an immediate end to the use of lethal force against them. The organization also urges international bodies to address the human rights violations occurring in Iran’s border regions, particularly in Kurdistan.
