According to reports received by Hana Human Rights Organization:
In recent days, Mamosta Barzan Maleki, the Friday imam and preacher of Sheikhin Grand Mosque in the city of Sanandaj, and one of its instructors, was sentenced by the Special Clergy Court of Hamadan to one year of discretionary imprisonment and permanent removal of clerical status on charges of “propaganda against the regime.”
According to an informed source, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, the verdict was communicated to this Kurdish cleric by phone from the Special Clergy Court of Hamadan. The last hearing regarding his charges was held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at the same court.
Mamosta Barzan Maleki had previously been summoned by the Special Clergy Court of Hamadan.
This Kurdish Sunni cleric, who had been temporarily released on a heavy bail of one billion tomans, was summoned to the court on Monday, June 9, 2025 to present his final defense.
He was also arrested by security forces on Monday, May 26, 2025, after attending a session at the Special Clergy Court of Hamadan.
One day before his arrest, on Sunday, May 25, 2025, he was summoned to the Sanandaj Intelligence Office and interrogated for approximately two hours.
Furthermore, on Monday, January 27, 2025, security forces stopped the vehicle carrying Mamosta Maleki and some of his students on the route from Dehgolan to Sanandaj (about 20 km from Sanandaj), preventing their official trip to Zahedan, invited by the Maki Mosque. They were detained for a short period.
